A Work for Hire Agreement ensures a business — not the independent contractor or freelancer who created it — owns all intellectual property in work produced under the engagement. Under U.S. copyright law, unless a work falls within the narrow statutory definition of work made for hire or is covered by a signed written assignment, the creator retains copyright automatically. This agreement includes both a work-for-hire designation and a backup IP assignment to cover all scenarios.
